Male lead.Dr. Edward Jennings, the lead research scientist at Stanford University, has been working on a project for several years to create sustainable cold fusion. He believes this can be attained by installing six of his superconducting electromagnetic field generators along the sixty-mile circumference of the atomic accelerator at Wayan, Nevada.

The town of Wayan lies totally within the circumference of the accelerator. The town and its people are involved in research including cleaner forms of energy, alternative power sources, high yield farming, and experimental small aircraft. Wayan also has an experimental 200-acre solar panel field, which produces power for the town and accelerator, making Wayan self-sufficient.Dr.

Jennings sends his two assistants back to Stanford to run various experiments related to an odd occurrence they noticed after the first experiment. While his assistants are at Stanford, he goes forward with a full power experiment assisted by the facility manager, Dr. Karen Brooks (a future love interest.) The full power experiment accidentally creates a time distortion, causing them, the accelerator and the entire town to time-travel some 400 years into the future!

With all outside communications to the town cut off, Dr. Jennings flies one of the small aircraft out to contact the authorities in Las Vegas to see if they’ve been affected by solar flares (which he believes is the reason for the communications blackout.) He finds Las Vegas in ruins -- possibly from a nuclear war that occurred hundreds of years ago.Realizing they have somehow traveled into the future, Dr. Jennings attempts to reverse the process and return everyone home to 2006, but instead ends up in the year 2036 -- thirty years into the future from where they started.

The current government reunites him with his assistants (who are now in their mid fifties.) This future is laden with heavy pollution and global energy concerns. The government has been conducting research on time-travel ever since the town’s disappearance. Now with the advantageous appearance of Wayan’s accelerator, this government intends to move the townspeople out and move in the latest military armament, then transport back to 2006 for a preemptive strike on the OPEC nations.

For in the future, OPEC gains military prowess along with nuclear weapons, and begins strong-arming the U.S. with ever increasing oil prices. His now older, yet still trusted assistants inform him of the impending dangers for the town’s people and the world if the military gains control of the accelerator. Dr. Jennings’ team reconfigures the accelerator using the research his assistants have conducted for the past thirty years. A bright flash is seen from space occurring in the western region of the U.S., leaving us with a pristine cloud cover, indicating they have returned somewhere in the past.Dr.

Jennings and Dr. Brooks (voice only) are heard saying:Brooks (V.O.)Do you think we’re back in our time?Jennings (V.O.)(keystrokes)We’ll know soon enough.Jennings attempts to uplink to a satellite that should be in orbit -- that is if they’re back, in their time!
